Expect a mix of small beach cottages, denser apartment and condo buildings closer to the water, and larger homes further from the coast, with prices generally tracking proximity to the sand.
Getting Around
Pacific Beach's core near Garnet Avenue and the boardwalk is compact and bike-friendly, with shops close together, and the neighborhood connects easily to Mission Beach and La Jolla along the coast, though cross-town trips still require a car.
Where to Eat and What to Do
Garnet Avenue offers a dense strip of restaurants and bars, while Crystal Pier and the boardwalk remain the neighborhood's defining outdoor draw, popular for walking, biking, and simply watching the surf.
Who Tends to Love It
Pacific Beach tends to appeal to buyers wanting direct beach access and a lively, social atmosphere, often at a somewhat lower price point than La Jolla just up the coast.
