Coronado Beach
Wide, flat sand and unobstructed western views make Coronado one of the more relaxed places to watch the sunset, often paired with a walk along the beach or a stop at the Hotel del Coronado.
Cabrillo National Monument
At the tip of Point Loma, this spot combines sunset views with genuine historical significance and, in the right season, a chance at spotting migrating whales. It has a modest entrance fee and closes at a set time, so check current hours before planning a sunset visit.
La Jolla Cove
Sunset here comes with the added bonus of sea lions, tide pools, and dramatic coastal rock formations, a slightly more active, scenic option than a flat beach sunset.
Mount Soledad

San Diego's sunset time shifts meaningfully across the year, from around 5pm in December to nearly 8pm in June, so it's worth checking the actual sunset time for your visit date rather than assuming. Marine layer (San Diego's coastal fog) can also roll in some evenings and block the view entirely, more common in late spring and early summer, so a clear-sky forecast is worth checking too.
